    LHS Swim-Weekly Update 2/26-3/4

    Hi Everyone!!

Sorry for the radio silence this last week! After an intense month of championship meets it was much needed to just slow down!

State was such a great end to the season and LHS swimmers did such a wonderful job of swimming hard, cheering hard, and being part of the fastest swimmers in Texas. :-) There were some learning moments with judges and more broken team records along with some super exciting FINALS swims! Everyone should be proud of being an LHS swimmer and I literally can't wait for next season already!!

Now, for the off-season (finally)! The Spring always brings lots of activities (especially with testing-STAAR, AP, TSI, IB, etc.)  and is a big shift in our schedules compared to the in-season schedule. I also attend meetings that I usually can't during the season and have testing proctor responsibilities that I don't usually have so there are more study hall days as well. Having the schedule handy will be really important during this time. I try really hard to keep everything "as is" once I post our schedule but sometimes weather or space availability makes us shift. I will communicate any changes in schedule via GroupMe with the swimmers and via Swimtopia with parents.

HERE is the MARCH swim schedule. We will definitely continue to work out and swim, work on technique, and build our base, and we will also play some games and have some fun!!

If you haven't already - mark your calendars for April 21st (Red v Blue meet!) and April 25th (the BANQUET!). We will all get to celebrate our swimmers and have some FUN!

Finally, LHS students are being asked to submit their course choices for the 2023-2024 school year. My goal is to continue to build this team, be a competitive force with the state, and (most importantly) support your child as a student-athlete in their personal, academic, and athletic growth. I know our pool isn't ideal, our season is long (and brutal in Oct./Nov.), and my expectations are very high, but our team is strong, the friendships are priceless, and the experience is one I hope that your swimmers will have for a lifetime. Things do change though and I understand that priorities shift and sometimes injuries are too much to continue swimming at the Varsity level. If your swimmer is not planning on returning next year, please make sure that I hear from both the swimmer and you all as parents so that we can discuss the situation. If you want to schedule an in-person meeting with me, please email me so that we can set up a time/place. I am totally fine with emails as well! And, as your swimmer is choosing their courses, please keep in mind that double blocking the swim period is mandatory (LISD and UIL rules) and that single blocking is only done on a case-by-case basis in conjunction with the coach, the swimmer, and the school counselor/IB coordinator. Every swimmer that single blocks has to go through an approval process and I have to fill out paperwork with justification. If you have questions about this, please let me know!

That's all for now!! Cheers to a great season and looking forward to some fun and celebrations in the off-season! As always, thank you for sharing your swimmers with me, and let me know if you need anything or have any questions!!
